Get into the car

"Sato Memoru?"
Sato jumped. He didn't expect people to know his name out here. Carefully he turned his head and stared straight into the face of the man he had not hoped to see: Karim Alzar.
"What are you doing here?" Karim asked. "I thought that you --"
"-- were at headquarters?" Sato read his mind. A faint smile curled his lips. "What a surprise, isn't it?"
Karim ignored the usual cynicism. "Why are you here?" he asked.
"The mission," Sato replied. He continued walking. Karim followed him with his car.
"I thought it was my mission" he said.
"You think a lot" Sato replied.
"That doesn't answer the question. Why are you here?" Karim squeezed his eyes. "Or are you keeping an eye on me again?"
Sato sighed. He turned around and looked his underling straight in the eyes
"I don't think that's any of your business" he said. Usually that one sentence was enough to silence people, but Karim wasn't afraid anymore.
"I want an answer" he persisted.
Sato snapped. "What makes you think you can make demands? You're just an underling. You're not paid to ask questions."
"Are we going to play it like this again?"
"This is not a game, Karim."
Karim persisted as if he hadn't even noticed Sato's hostility. "I know that is more behind this whole thing, Sato. I want to know what it is."
"Or else?" Sato challenged him. Did that idiot really think he could make demands?
"Or else I will force you to answer."
"What makes you think you can use those powers on me?" Sato asked mockingly.
"Your aura" Karim said. "Your energy signal feels disturbed. You powers aren't working. Not properly, at least."
Sato clasped his backpack. So Karim knew?
"Oh, come on!" Karim cried out. "I know what happened, Sato. I was at HQ that day. I could've killed you. You may thank Masaru. If it weren't for him, you would've been dead."
Sato swallowed. All of a sudden he didn't feel so powerful anymore.
"What do you want?" he whispered.
"Just get into the car!"

These are the things that I love working on most. Scenes from the story and some good old character interaction
It's based on a scene in book 2 that happens after a mission. The original is a lot longer, but I cut it down a bit when I translated it for a bite-size snippet. Both Sato and Karim work for an organization named Neorasa (which are anti-government rebels). Sato is Karims superior, even though he's years younger than Karim. He's the one that coordinates missions and orders people around. As skilled as Sato is at what he does, he rarely explains anything about the missions and that annoys the hell out of Karim. 

As for the art... just trying something experimental and outside my usual color scheme. Also... backgrounds. 2017 is gonna be the year I tried drawing backgrounds XD
